Looking Back

15 06 2009

When I look back through the whole year and see how our class has grown I am just amazed at how much everyone has changed since the beginning of the year.

I think that the one place we all changed is Hornby camp because we were all in the same place for two whole nights and almost three days we all changed because we got to learn more about each other and we had to stay in the same place for most of the week. We changed physically we changed mentally and some of us just stayed the same. We all grew physically because we experienced tough times with the activities and some of us even got sick and puked (naming no names just follow this link) he wasn’t feeling well before but the salad must have just come right back up so we were all up really late and the next day we didn’t want to get out of bed. We all faced some challenges like Hayden flipping over in his kayak, my tent getting ripped, and many other things that I don’t have the attention span to list. So we all faced challenges especially at the climbing tower where no one wanted to go first but once it was there turn they just dominated it and felt great.  We all really liked the food because it tasted so good and after that I think we all wanted to go back to the good food of Hornby.

Everybody has grown this year in more ways than you can count but after everything that we have done in Div.16 I think that everyone had a very memorible year.

The Band

24 02 2009

Hey everybody today’s post is about what happened today at school. By the title I guess you know what happened. The high school next to us did a performance at our school and it was really good. There were drums, flutes, clarinets and my all time favourite the guitar and that’s only naming a few

I think that if I ever went into the band at that high school I would probably play the electric guitar because I’ve been meaning to learn it but I never got to and I think that it would be a really fun instrument to play and I would really enjoy learning how to play it.

Well, thats the instrument I would like to play. What instrument or instruments would you like to play?

The Robo Race!

1 02 2009

“I bet my robot can pick up the tennis ball faster than yours can pick up the juice box” taunted Brenden, “No way my robot can own yours in a race to pick up a juice box” Alex retorted,” I seriously doubt that!” Brenden yelled back, “Then we’ll have a race, five o-clock, right here today,” Alex said back.” Deal, but we can make any modifications we want on the robots.” Brenden said back, and so the battle began…

So the two friends went their ways and immediately started working on their robots. But neither of them thought of any modifications to put on the robots. So they thought, and they thought, and they thought some more and well you get the idea. So at five o-clock they came to the track and began the race to see whose robot is better at picking things up. The track was a bunch of windy curves and the contestants (Alex and Brenden) have to pick up the juice box (or the tennis ball) and take it to the end of the track and whoever completes the race first is the winner.

“On your mark, get set, GO!” The referee shouted. Then BAM both the robots came dashing out to collect their objects. Both the Vexplorer (Alex’s robot) and the Vexbot (Brenden’s robot) quickly “ran” out to get their objects. The Vexbot quickly found its tennis ball and tried to pick it up but it kept rolling away. Meanwhile the Vexplorer had already picked up the juice box but had experimented some technical difficulties because it got stuck in one of the windy curves so both competitors were stuck. Finally the Vexbot picked up the tennis ball with its crane type conveyor belt and was speeding through the course. But wait the Vexplorer has just gotten out of the windy curve it was stuck in and is now catching up to the Vexbot. “It’s gonna be a photo finish” the referee yelled, and just at that moment both the robots finished. “And the winner is… It’s a tie?” The referee sounded confused “What!” Both Brenden and Alex said at the same time. “I guess I was wrong to think that my robot is better” Brenden apologized, “No it’s my fault” Alex said back, “O well at least we’re still friends” Brenden said.

P.S this never actually happened.

My New Year’s Resolution

7 01 2009

Hi everybody, I know it isn’t New Year’s anymore but I am still going to write about my 2009 New Year’s resolution.

In class today we were talking about what goals we had for the New Year so I was thinking of what a prefect world would be like and I thought that it would be a place where there was no global warming or war. My New Year’s resolution would to be more active and not to waste as much water and electricity. A way for me to do that would be walking to school and taking shorter showers. I will be affected the most by this change because I will know that I have done some of my part to help the community. I will try to get other people to be more careful about how much water and electricity they use and hopefully that will help. Also one of my classmates has the same idea. Believe it or not it’s Daniel C so hurray for him =D . I am hoping that some other people will also try some strategies to try and help save the planet.

Well, that’s all I wanted to say so, see you all next time.

My Book

11 12 2008
Hi peoples, today I want to tell you about a really cool book I am reading, it’s name is “The Mythl Wars” ( this is the cover with a picture of me reading it).

The plot of this book is about these three creatures called Mythls. So the main story line is that these three mythls get abducted from these creepy people who take them to a torture camp where they are forced to build this evil castle, but little did the evil emperor Dalesar know the three mythls were planning to escape. But after they have a plan the trouble starts because they need to get past all of the guards that well guard the castle, so they need to recruit an army of slaves to help them but one of the slaves does something he will regret for the rest of his life. Well, that’s all I’m going to tell you about the plot of this book.

The genre of this book is adventure and action. The characters names in the book are Lakdal, Iroh and Kawolf (don’t ask me why the author picked those names he just did). But my favourite part about this book is the fact that it’s like the other books that I am currently reading, the series is called Redwall, the writing between these writers is very differently because this book is more about action and it only has one storyline unlike the other book I am reading which has several storylines. But still I really enjoyed reading this book I think that this was a very interesting book.

Thats all for today, I’ll see you all next time:) (P.S. this isn’t a real book).

How Have People Adapted to Living in Space?

4 12 2008

5,4,3,2,1 and blast off!!!!!!!!! Oh! Your here I was just getting ready to embark on a intergalactic journey (not really) but we just talked to a real astronaut (not in real life we talked to him from a video conference) , his name is Clay Anderson(that is a picture he took of himself when he was in space). He is an astronaut that has been aboard the ISS space station.

Here are some facts I learned about space from him.

Working on the ISS (International Space Station) can be really hard because there are lots of jobs to do. One of the jobs that people do in space is conducting experiments which is probably really hard in 0g (0 gravity). Another thing they do is regular day stuff like fixing things and a bunch of stuff like that. There are a lot of things to do on the ISS so the astronauts have a tight schedule to keep.

Also some astronauts take space walks to repair the outside of the ship, like when the ship is damaged or something like that. You might think that the astronauts only need to train before the missions but the still need to train on the ship. To train on the ship they use CD-Roms and simulators to maintain applicable skills so they don’t lose their touch. Their fitness training is also extremely important so they keep fit and so their bones don’t deteriorate.

To live in space you need to exercise daily for at least 2.5 hours a day. Another thing they need to do to survive is to make sure they do their jobs because if they don’t do something and it was a critical job something bad could happen to the station. Some of the astronauts would also need to make sure they have enough supplies to survive.

Keeping clean in space is just as important as being clean on Earth. Taking a shower on the ISS is very different from taking a shower on Earth. For firsts you need to step into a weird shower where the water comes out and becomes like this water skin thing. Then you get some soap from this toothpaste like thing , then once you have put the soap on your body this vacuum thing sucks all of it off of you( pretty neat).

I am probably guessing that they have some sort of high-tech stuff on the space station to help with the experiments. It probably really helps to have a positive attitude so you can get all of your work done because if you didn’t have a positive attitude your day would be horrible. But still just imagine all of the things you would get to learn. Because you would get to conduct experiments and learn a bunch of fancy new words.

Well, thats all I wanted to tell you, see you all next time.

Water Wise! My P.S.A.

7 11 2008

Hi girls and guys, today I am going to tell you about a project we have been working on in class.

Our project was about being water wise. Because in the Comox Valley we are apparently some of the world’s worst water wasters, so we made some videos about being water wise. Here is a link to my video if you want to watch it My Water Wise P.S.A.

If you watched that video I hope it inspired you to be more water wise. Now if you want to you could leave a comment with some tips for my city to be more water wise.

Well, that’s all I wanted to say, I’ll see you all next time.

Howlin Halloween Happenin!

4 11 2008

AAAAAHHHHHHHH! Ha! I got you there, didn’t I? Well, anyway I am here to tell you about something that happened a couple of days ago. For one thing to tell you it was Halloween so that made our entire class extremely happy because it meant we got to  go trick-or-treating and we got to play games in class (bonus).

We called our afternoon of fun the Howlin Halloween Happinin (or happening). The first thing we did that day was have our school’s annual costume parade, which was kinda neat because we got to see everybody else dressed up.

So after a bit of explaining of what we were doing for the Howlin Halloween Happenin we started to go to all of the stations. My groups first station was Halloween Bingo, it was really fun to be the caller because either way you get stickers. Our next station was a drawing station where we got to draw a bunch of Halloween things like spiders, witches and skeletons, my drawing was a cat, an owl, and a weird-looking spider so it was pretty basic. Next we played a game called The Secret Door, it was a game where you need lots of remembering skills and cooperation. The rules of the game are pretty straight forward, everybody takes a turn flipping over two cards that are turned upside down in the haunted house game board, if you get a match then you get to go again and if you turn over a clock then you put it on the top of the game board and if you get a certain amount of clocks you lose, so that’s how you play that game. After that we went bowling and I’m guessing you don`t need an explanation for that. For the last thing my group did was computer games, my favourite was Eggs Of Destruction (basically you need to fire eggs at your opponent).

The one thing that I would do differently would be giving us more time on the stations because we only got about 20 minutes on each station.

Well, that’s what we did this Halloween for school but unfortunatly my time is up, see ya all next time.

Immunization

15 10 2008

I felt really nervous on our way down to the library because we were getting our shots. When we were sitting at the library tables they gave us a form to see which shots we need. I needed two shots. Well, I thought that that wasn’t that bad because some people needed four (yipes!).

I was one of the first people to get my shots. When I walked into the room next to the library the two ladies that were giving me the shots told me that it will be quick and easy. They use some distraction things to stop us from thinking about the pain (a.k.a. a pink dinosaur, a tonka truck, and some weird creature).

“5,4,3,2,1″, the ladies said as they pushed the needles into my arm. It lasted a couple of seconds and then it was over. I didn’t feel any pain until they removed the needle because one of my arms started to bleed a little bit, just a drop. But after that my arms felt sorta ok.

Well, now it’s over. Now one of my arms is really stiff and the other’s numb but I think it will go away in a bit.
