What is it like in a Canadian Courtroom

When you go into a Canadian Courtroom you have to go through a some security checks just like you do at the airport. You will also have to present and I.D card so the officers know that it is safe to let you go in. When you walk into a Canadian Courtroom you go through the right side of the door.

What we do to make the process fair

In Canada you are innocent until proven guilty. To make our process fair we made the courts so that people in wheelchairs can still be called as witness’. If the trial is about something aboriginal a native worker is allowed to come in and here what they say. The jury can not know the accused or the accuser. Before the trial begins both the witness’ and the accused must swear that they will tell the truth. The judge will have to listen to what both the crown prosecutor and the accused (and the accused’s lawyer).

What we do to make our process fair

In a Canadian court there are lots of different jobs that people must do. There are many important jobs but some aren’t as important as others.

  • The Judge is obviously the head of the court because if there wasn’t a Judge there couldn’t be a trial. The Judge will keep the court in order. In the case that there is no jury the Judge will have to make the decision of whether the accused is guilty or not. Some really important qualities that the judge would need is patience and concentration because trials can take a long time.
  • Another really important job is the Court Officer who makes sure that the accused doesn’t have any weapons that could harm anyone in the court. If the accused is proven guilty the Court Officer will escort them to the prison box which is on the left side of the court until more police men come to take the accused to jail. Some really important qualities for a Court Officer would be strength and bravery because they need to be strong enough that if the accused tried to run away he could catch him.
  • The Crown Counsel is the person who is trying to convince the judge that the accused is guilty by using facts of crimes that the person did (or did not) commit. A really important quality for the Crown Counsel would be confidence because he would need to be confident that his proof is right.
  • The Investigating Officer works with the Crown Counsel by finding proof that the accused actually did commit the crime. The Investigating Officer is a member of the police and that is how he or she finds the information. A really important quality that the Investigating Officer would need is
  • The press is a member of the news who is writing the story down for the news paper. The press isn’t allowed to take pictures or use the accused’s name for security purposes.

How Blogging has Changed my Life

2 04 2009

Todays post is based on the post on Mrs.Waters blog. Blogging has changed the way I write for the better because I am now typing faster and writing a lot better than I did at the beginning of the year.

When I first started to blog I thought it was a lot harder than it had to be. But as I kept blogging I got a lot better at it and I also got better at normal writing too so now both my blog posts and my assignments are getting a lot better than they were at the beggining of the year. Another plus of blogging is that I can blog whenever I want so I can even get better at writing from home. But at school I think it really is better to blog on the computer than just by writing on hand because you can type faster than you write. That is only a couple of the ways blogging has changed my life.

How has blogging changed your life? Leave a comment and tell me how blogging has changed your life.

How Have People Adapted to Living in Space?

4 12 2008

5,4,3,2,1 and blast off!!!!!!!!! Oh! Your here I was just getting ready to embark on a intergalactic journey (not really) but we just talked to a real astronaut (not in real life we talked to him from a video conference) , his name is Clay Anderson(that is a picture he took of himself when he was in space). He is an astronaut that has been aboard the ISS space station.

Here are some facts I learned about space from him.

Working on the ISS (International Space Station) can be really hard because there are lots of jobs to do. One of the jobs that people do in space is conducting experiments which is probably really hard in 0g (0 gravity). Another thing they do is regular day stuff like fixing things and a bunch of stuff like that. There are a lot of things to do on the ISS so the astronauts have a tight schedule to keep.

Also some astronauts take space walks to repair the outside of the ship, like when the ship is damaged or something like that. You might think that the astronauts only need to train before the missions but the still need to train on the ship. To train on the ship they use CD-Roms and simulators to maintain applicable skills so they don’t lose their touch. Their fitness training is also extremely important so they keep fit and so their bones don’t deteriorate.

To live in space you need to exercise daily for at least 2.5 hours a day. Another thing they need to do to survive is to make sure they do their jobs because if they don’t do something and it was a critical job something bad could happen to the station. Some of the astronauts would also need to make sure they have enough supplies to survive.

Keeping clean in space is just as important as being clean on Earth. Taking a shower on the ISS is very different from taking a shower on Earth. For firsts you need to step into a weird shower where the water comes out and becomes like this water skin thing. Then you get some soap from this toothpaste like thing , then once you have put the soap on your body this vacuum thing sucks all of it off of you( pretty neat).

I am probably guessing that they have some sort of high-tech stuff on the space station to help with the experiments. It probably really helps to have a positive attitude so you can get all of your work done because if you didn’t have a positive attitude your day would be horrible. But still just imagine all of the things you would get to learn. Because you would get to conduct experiments and learn a bunch of fancy new words.

Well, thats all I wanted to tell you, see you all next time.

Dreams of Remembrance

13 11 2008

Hi girls and guys. A couple of days ago it was Remembrance Day so at school we made these pictures to represent how horrible it would be to be a soldier in WW1 (World War 1). In my person’s mind he is thinking about living in the trenches which you can imagine would be really horrible. That is why we honour Remembrance Day because of the soldiers that gave their lives to save our country.

Well, that’s all I wanted to say, bye for now.
